Magic in Mordheim is divided into distinct spell lists, each tied to specific warband types or hero roles. A wizard starts with one randomly determined spell from his list and may learn more through experience. To cast a spell, roll 2D6 and meet or beat the spell’s Difficulty. A wizard may cast one spell per turn and cannot wear armour or carry a shield or buckler (the sole exception being the Prayers of Sigmar).
The following spell lists are used by warbands in the Mordheim Australis 2027 campaign.
Spell Lists
Lesser Magic Available to Warlocks (hired swords) and to any Hero who has learned magic via a Tome of Magic. The most accessible spell list for human warbands.
Chaos Rituals Used by the Magister of the Cult of the Possessed, Beastmen shamans, and the Marauders of Chaos Seer with the Mark of Chaos Undivided.
Necromancy Used by the Necromancer of the Undead warband. Grants power over the dead — raising fallen warriors, terrorising enemies, and draining the living.
Prayers of Sigmar Used by the Sigmarite Matriarch (Sisters of Sigmar) and the Warrior Priest (Witch Hunters). Unlike other magic, Prayers may be used in armour and are not subject to anti-spell protections.
Skaven Magic Formally the Magic of the Horned Rat — used by the Warlock Engineer of the core Skaven warband and by Sorcerers of Clan Eshin and Clan Pestilens.
Nurgle Rituals Used by the Carnival Master of the Carnival of Chaos. Diseases, rot, and the blessings of the Plague God.
Rituals of Hashut Used by the Chaos Dwarf Sorcerer. Dark fire-and-ash sorcery in the name of Hashut, the Father of Darkness.
Warband-specific spell lists
Several other warbands in the campaign use spell lists not covered here — including the Marauders of Chaos Seer variants (Tchar, Onogal, Shornaal Rituals). These are documented on each warband’s page.
